Disinfectants -Microbiocides

These products contain active chemical agents and are used to eliminate, inactivate or even significantly reduce the population of undesirable microorganisms, such as bacteria, viruses and fungi, which are harmful to health, the environment and human activities.    Microbiocidal products are subject to licensing and should contain EU approved active substances (Regulation (EU) No 528/2012) in order to be lawfully offered for sale.  Licensed products may be safe to use, however, their microbiocidal activity cannot be taken for granted even when the user’s instructions are correctly applied. The professional user is advised to confirm the microbiocidal activity, first by validating the sanitisation / disinfection process and, then, by periodically verifying its application by measuring the sanitising effect.

Confirmation can be of utmost importance, as the microbiocidal activity of these products depends on such factors as the characteristics of the surface, the types of organic and inorganic matter present and, most importantly, the nature and physiological state of the microorganisms, which, under certain conditions, may be resistant to active ingredients.

  • On contact surfaces in areas where products are handled, whether it is equipment, such as tables, conveyor belts, containers, bins etc., and/or equipment accessories and utensils, as well as within special constructions, such as pipes, silos, tanks, drains, etc.
  • In water tanks and water pipes
  • On living tissues, e.g., on skin for antisepsis.
